Associate Casting Director (1346)

Do you have significant experience in Casting at Associate level or higher? Are you experienced in leading the casting of productions? Do you have extensive knowledge of actors currently working in British theatre? Can you negotiate artists' salaries and deal points? Do you thrive in a fast-paced, creative and deadline driven environment?

We are looking for an Associate Casting Director to lead on the casting of nominated projects and provide support on other productions, workshops and events undertaken by the Casting department. You will be assisting, supporting and advising the Head of Casting and wider team to support/achieve our organisational aims and artistic programming.

It is an exciting time to join the RSC under the new leadership of Daniel Evans and Tamara Harvey. The casting department casts a wide-ranging programme of work, from Shakespeare and his contemporaries through to bold new writing.

Reporting to the Head of Casting, key areas of responsibility include (please see the full job description and person specification for the comprehensive list):

  • Casting of productions both individually and as Co-Casting Director with the Head of Casting, including casting young performers.
  • Casting workshops and events.
  • Covering as many plays, films, TV dramas as possible to keep up to date with actors and directors working in the profession.
  • Generating and supervising the production and distribution of contracts, letters and casting memos.
  • Negotiating artists' deals when leading on the casting of a production, and as required by the Head of Casting.
  • Commitment to broadening the diversity of acting companies at the RSC.

To be suitable for this role, it is essential that you have the following knowledge and experience:

  • Significant experience as a Casting Director or Casting Associate.
  • Leading on the casting of productions.
  • Extensive knowledge of actors currently working in British theatre.
  • Negotiating artists' salaries and deal points.
  • Experience of casting children and an awareness of the regulations governing the employment of children.
  • Sound administrative and organisational skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced, creative and deadline driven environment.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and relationship building skills.

This is a full-time, permanent position based in London, you will be required to work across all our sites in London and Stratford-upon-Avon. You will be working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday with occasional weekend and evening work. The RSC is committed to a culture of flexible working. This role will provide the opportunity for some flexibility in hours and location of work, ensuring that the specific remit of the role is delivered.
